This Week at DFC – Sunday August 1, 2010

Series: Joy in the Journey – Philippians 4:10-23

“Whatever” has become a throw-away word. It is as common as the word “like,” as in “like I’m all… Whatever.”  Good, strong words are often devalued in a culture of meaningless banter.

For some, “whatever” is a way to dismiss the whole conversation.   Or to give in to a decision just because we don’t want the hassle.  The server might say, “Sorry, we are all out of beef; the filet of sole is all that’s left.”

“Whatever.”  We wave it off and eat the fish with a shrug and a frown.

Some of us come to God with that kind of “whatever.”  Not Paul.   Whatever meant something deeper. Something richer.   No matter what my circumstance, he says, I have learned to be content.   Content in abundance.  Content in want.  Whatever.

Don’t dismiss Sunday morning at DFC because of the hassle.  God welcomes you here.  We welcome you here.   Whatever you bring with you, you are loved.  There is contentment.  Find it.

It’s waiting for you.
