This Sunday at DFC: The Least of These

Sunday, October 10, 2010

Most of us know the “Serenity Prayer” –

God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
-Reinhold Niebuhr

It’s a powerful prayer because it underscores a tension we live with every day.  Some of the issues that confront us require specific action.  We make a decision.  We pay a bill.  We make a call.  We write a note.  We fill out the form.  We run the errand.  Do the chore.  Then we are finished.  Problem solved.  Our procrastination only makes things worse.  We just need to do it.  To get it done.

But there are other issues in our day that beg for resolution – but we feel powerless.  There is nothing we can do.  We wish we could.  We try.  We long for a solution.  We brood.  We consider options.  We seek counsel.  We read books.  We pray.  But still, no answer.  So we give up.  We throw up our hands in resignation.

Jesus cares about both.  He knows the struggle.  It identifies with our anxiety.

Come join us on Sunday morning.  Come ready to take a moment to ask for help.  For insight.  For release.
